Cowra Ballet School

Dance classes for students aged 2 years - 21 years.
RAD Ballet; Jazz/Funk/Hip Hop; Tap; Contemporary; Lyrical; Musical Theatre and STEPS.

Cowra Ballet School is a family owned dance studio, and has been operating in Cowra since the 1970’s. We value the benefits that movement can provide to young people, and believe that anybody and any body can dance.

Our dance classes provide a fantastic environment for young people to develop their confidence and increase their sociability and problem-solving skills. But above all, our young and enthusiastic teachers aim to make every class fun and enjoyable for all students.

We are proud supporters and promoters of dance in regional locations, and try to give our students many opportunities each year to work with guest teachers and attend national and state dance festivals; many of which may usually be reserved for metropolitan based dance studios. We always support our past students through inviting them to return and take workshops with the current students, passing on their knowledge and passion for dance.

Classes are held during the week in the after school hours, as well as all day Saturday.

An annual concert is held in November/ December each year. The concert is always a huge success, spanning over two nights of full performances, as well as a school's Matinee performance. This gives parents, family and friends an opportunity to see how the student has progressed throughout the year.

Children are also encouraged to perform either in a group or as a soloist in the local Cowra Eisteddford, which always proves to be a huge success with many students recieving prizes for their performances.

"TORSION" Youth Choreographic Ensemble, founded by former Cowra Ballet School teacher, Cheryl Ansell, is a semi-professional dance company that performes at various functions throughout the Cowra community and surrounding regions. Students from the Cowra Ballet School are selected to be apart of "Torsion" based on their committment, enthusiasm and dance technique. "Torsion" is supported by a number of local clubs and organisations, including Lions and Rotary, as well as the Cowra Shire Council.
Before joining "Torsion", a selection of junior students are invited to be apart of "Junior Torsion", to prepare them for the responsibilities and experience required for "Torsion".
Torsion's Artistic Director is Hayley Barker, and Assistant Artistic Director in Makayla Nelligan.
